Non-Profit ServicesNon-profit organizations face particular challenges at tax time. QRGA helps charities navigate their way through complicated state and federal tax laws. New regulations have made non-profit tax compliance even more complex. Because we understand the minutiae of the legislation, QRGA is able to provide thorough and comprehensive tax advice to non-profit organizations. Many of our partners and staff are themselves active in charities, making us particularly attentive to the needs of such agencies. We provide services to many local non-profits that come from diverse sectors such as schools, membership organizations, museums, and research and development institutes. Our significant experience as both auditors and outside board members in our communities and on civic boards provides us with a well-rounded approach. We are able to see both sides of the equation, and our clients will frequently seek our advice on financing and broader business matters. Few business sectors have undergone such significant legal and governance changes in recent years as the not-for-profit sector. Further complicating this sector is each entity operates with the local state's governance body. In Massachusetts, it is the Attorney General's Division of Public Charities that sets the tone and provides the regulations. See www.ago.state.ma.us. Not to be outdone, the federal government, with its tax powers and authorities, has recently changed the landscape on exempt organization pension plans. Formerly exempt, the commonly found 403(b) retirement plan is about to fall into the same reporting and auditing rules found in the private sector. See the AICPA website for more information.
